Music and creativity were never too far from Nik West who grew up with music her entire life in Phoenix, Arizona. Music seemed to be the only path for Nik with her father being a guitarist, learning how to play the rhythm guitar at the tender age of 13 and forming a band with her sisters and brother. Nik’s voice is reminiscent of that throaty sing song method heard by artists like Erykah Badu and Macy Gray. Although her musical style could fall in line with those greats, her voice and music still standout as something new and fresh, unlike every other thing out right now.
CLE Magazine is not he only one to take notice of a star in the making. Music journalist Alex Henderson sums West’s incredible talent up saying “Nik West is one 21st Century R&B artist who isn’t lacking in the chops department. She is a young electric bassist who clearly knows her way around her instrument and plays like she has been inspired by the funky likes of Graham, Louis Johnson (of Brothers Johnson fame) and Marcus Miller.”
Nik West released her first album Just In The Nik of Time in 2011 which showcases all of Nik’s best assets from her voice, to songwriting to bass skills. You can buy her album here: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/nikwest
