By now, the name Rye Rye should bring a familiar sensation, but to some the moniker still holds mystery.
You may remember bubbly flows, and bright colors and an affiliation with MIA, but Rye Rye is certainly running out of the gate with her debut album Go! Pop! Bang!
In typical Rye Rye fashion the album boasts electric beats. There are tracks like “Drop,” which get your feet moving. There are several tracks that hold true to the artists Baltimore rotos – house music beats, and repetitive lyrics, that just may get a party moving. There are tracks like “Sunshine,” which is a collaboration with M.I.A, that puts you in a summer time mood. The album features collaboration with Tyga on the track “Shake Twist Drop,” a bass booming dance track. Akon is also featured on the album, on a slower track, titled “Crazy B****.” While the title is a tad startling, the track is actually a good song with a good beat.
The album does have the traditional Rye Rye feel, bright images and colorful rhymes with party beats, but there are a few questions that the album raised. Is Rye Rye only a club music artist? Can she venture into other types of music successfully?
Truthfully, only time will tell, but she will certainly win in one facet or another with MIA on her side.
The album highlights would have to be songs: “Sunshine,” ‘Drop,” and “DNA.”
Album Rating: 6.5/10
