CLE caught up with DMV favorite Phil Adé at the #PhilAdéFriday2 show in NW, DC. Check out what the rising star had to say before his show!

You’re on your 5th mixtape now, what does Phil Adé want to tell the world on #PhilAdéFriday2?

It’s a little bit of everything with #PhilAdéFriday2 it’s not really one subject it’s all different pieces of my life. The goal with it was to make it like a REAL mixtape, when hip-hop started when people did mixtapes it was actual freestyles and people just having fun. I wanted to bring that back, that’s what #PhilAdéFriday2 is.

Do you think people are starting to appreciate your contribution to hip hop?

Oh yeah for sure, I’m definitely getting a lot of love. People always appreciated it, it’s just getting the music out there so people can hear it. I think we’re doing a good job with that. PhilAdéFriday thats the goal with it, keep dropping stuff, keep getting people’s attention and just getting the word out on what I have to offer to music as a whole. I’m definitely starting to get  a lot more listeners now.

On Gone you said your life is like a movie and a lot of people say that, but what do you mean by that ? We’ve seen Adé in the Life tell us what that’s all about.

With Adé in the Life I really just wanted to let people connect with me a little more. With rapping you only get to see so much, but with video and the series we started with LCD you get to see what I go through for real on a day-to-day basis, when I have shows and I’m moving around. That’s the goal with Adé in the Life. As far as my life being a movie, most of the time when people see me it’s behind the screen, It just is! Just going to the places I’ve gone, knowing the people I know, it’s not something that everybody gets to do it’s not normal, so it’s just like a movie.

On the first #PhilAdéFriday you said the idea for the #PhilAdéFriday mixtape came from just giving the fans what they want consistently, is that something that’s hard for you to do or is it natural?

Yeah, it definitely comes natural and that’s what I wan’t to do, it’s nothing to do a song for me. I’m not the type of person to make a dope track and hold on to it. You know how some people are like oh, let me tuck this away, I feel like if you make a dope track you can do it again. So why not just put it out there and give it to the fans as I do it and that’s where PhilAdéFriday comes from a lot of the tracks I did, I did that week, the week I put it out . That’s the way I feel if something is dope you should just throw it out there!

CLE last caught up with you at the A Different World mixtape release. How have you changed since your last release, have you grown?

I think I’m starting to work a little harder. I’ve really seen what hard work gets you. A lot of that is going on tour earlier with Mac Miller and with Sneaker Pimps, you really get to see different artists and how they work and what the benefits are of how hard they work. Mac is a young dude he’s like 19 but his work ethic is incredible, that’s an inspiration to me that’s the little homie, his work ethic is incredible and that’s why he is where he is now. He got a number one album. He’s 19 and he’s independent. That hit me, so I really need to go hard for my fans and just continue to be consistent and just put out more quantity and quality.

Our January issue is focused on social media… What can you say about the importance of sites like twitter, Facebook, tumblr and do you have VOXER?

Just in society now people want to feel like they can touch you, feel you and see what you’re thinking, so with sites like twitter, tumblr and Facebook, people can get a feel for the type of person you are. People want to connect with the artist, people want to feel like they know you and all of that stuff is great for that. I’m going to use every social network, I’m going to get VOXER when I get iPhone, I’m going to get instagram. I want people to feel like they know me, that’s my goal.

Forget about 2012 What does 2017 hold for Phil Adé?

Hopefully I’ll be set up nice by then, a couple world tours.  There’s a lot of people that hit me on twitter like yo Phil come to London, Tokyo, Bejing hopefully by that time I”ll have been there and done that and everybody around the world will support me or have the chance to come connect with me. Of course I want to be set up by then. I want to be good.
