The sports realm has lost a legend.
According to statements released from his family, former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has died. He was 85. Doctors at Mount Nitttany Medical Center where Paterno died, have revealed the cause was lung cancer.
Paterno’s 46 years in charge of Penn State’s program, starting in 1966, earned him 409 victories, a pair of national titles, a statue in front of his team’s home field and a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame.
The man known to Penn State football as JoePa passed away just three months after being dismissed from the program, amidst sexual misconduct allegations involving his former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
