Interracial Dating In The 21st Century

Interracial Dating In The 21st Century by J.R. Yussuf

Let me start by saying this, the two people above are one of the most attractive inter-racial couples to have been witnessed during our time and if you don’t agree for any reason you MUST be checked by an optometrist!

Moving on, women of color are complacent of their colored male counterparts being in jail, degenerate, a closet bisexual, uneducated, unfaithful and the list goes on; going on about the faults, short comings, immaturity and inadequacies of men of color that they have dated in the past or even current love interests. “They are not men. They are boys in mens’ bodies.” “They ain’t no good…It’s in their nature to cheat.” “They in it to hit it then quit it, they not in it to win it, they never committed.”

After the many negative words flung at men of color you would think women of color would get a clue and expand their horizons. The inverse is also true about men of color. If she is too ghetto or needy or lovey-dovey or has an attitude problem, move on. If he is too hot headed or stigmatized or animalistic, move on. Try new things. Explore your options.

New statistics show that an estimated “80 percent of all African-American children will spend part of their childhood living apart from their fathers”, and “70 percent of African-American children are born to unmarried mothers” according to a study done at Morehouse College. This shows that contrary to popular belief, just because you marry within your race that does not always lead to a solvent, successful home life and family. People fear that there won’t be a common ground with someone of another race; when in fact it is important to remember that even if different races tend to run in different circles, we all live in the same world.

You would be shocked at the doors that are opened for you if you would step out of the box and explore other cultures and new avenues. To be honest, once most people leave high school and then college, most find it very difficult to meet people outside of their jobs. After graduating the chances are, you will be the youngest person at your place of work if you are fresh out of college. It will be hard to meet people and you will be surrounded by people much older than you.

So by limiting your potential dating pool to guys or girls of your own race the possibility of finding the right person for you becomes that more limited. For example, if you know ten guys that are the same race as you are and are potential love interests, narrowing them down based on attraction, chemistry, financial health and intellect you might get two out of that ten that you can date. Out of these two the chances of them both being single, not a cheater or BLANK narrows things down even further to one or possibly zero.

If you fear that since you both come from different worlds you would have little to talk about, topics of conversation can easily start at what either of you chose for a major in college, or where you both worked if ya’ll didn’t go to college! Issues of insubstantial conversation can’t possibly be valid especially since most people you meet that you consider being your race (Caucasian, Asian, Middle-Eastern, etc.) have specific lineage that is different from your own. Get this, you see a person of African decent (just like you) but you get to know them and realize they are Jamaican-American while you are Nigerian-American. Though you guys are the same race, you are of different ethnicities and thus come from different backgrounds. This is not worlds apart from being Nigerian-American and dating someone who is Italian-American.

Interracial dating in the 21st century is imperative if you want to find the best of the best in a spouse. And you never know, you could meet your next soul mate someplace you least expect it so don’t be so quick to judge. Open your mind to new possibilities and new ideas of what your next spouse could look like. And besides, it all tastes the same, it just looks different…haha!
