Faylis Matos (Trinity College Hartford,Conn.)

Five years from now…

I see myself in class and studying mostly! After those years, I plan to stay in Japan for a while, working and furthering my study of the language (Japanese is my minor)日本語!

What are your goals in life?

Amongst the many goals I have in mind for my future, I have never lost sight of my first dream. Since I was 10 years old, I have always wanted to open my own cafe. Almost a decade later, I have other goals in mind, but I want to make sure I stick to the dream I’ve had since a child. I want to  be able to donate money to my elementary school, and make my family proud as the first woman of the family to own a business.

What are you best at and why?

Making people feel better. I consider myself to be a listener, although I love to talk. Many of my friends seek me for advice and I listen and I normally know just what to say. Since I’m pretty open minded and not judgmental, I think it’s easier for some people to talk to me. I am also very good at rhyming. I enjoy writing poetry, and thinking of words that rhyme just seem to come naturally to me. In other words, I don’t  know anyone who can rhyme like me!

Trinity College Legacy…

I would like to leave a legacy of inspiring people to step outside of their comfort zones and branch out more. I think college is a time to socialize and network with people, as well as get involved. Many people find one organization or group of friends then just stick to it. As an R.A, I have the responsibility of getting my residents involved, thus I must be involved as well. In addition, I do not have a clique. I migrate equally between groups and I try to be friendly towards everyone. This may seem simple, but on my campus, there are many walls of division.
