This week CLE Magazine had the opportunity to finally sit down with hip hop rocker David E. Beats, also known as The White House Band.
This man is known for rocking out in his live performances, which make you want to come back for more. David E. Beats IS The White House Band, his creativity and musical genius has him rocking solo in what has recently become a one-man band. Coming off a live performance where he opened for Dwele, we were able to speak to him about his musical inspirations, time traveling, and memorable rap verses.
What pushed you into the music world and made you feel you were meant to be a musician?
I decided to pursue music because I was a big Jay-Z fan in middle school. The Blueprint got me really into hip hop and the beats made me want to learn instruments and produce songs.
If there was one period of time you could jump back to and play music in, which would it be?
I would say the 60s, since the game is kinda like that now. Just out there touring and making moves, less competition, etc.
What do you feel you are adding to the music scene? What makes you different?
I feel like I am giving hip hop its first true Renaissance. It’s starting to have one now but I think with the Rap/Rock sound I have going on it could really change people and how they perceive rap music.
Your live performances are a staple part of your music, has performing always come easy to you or is it something you’ve had to work on?
Something I’ve definitely had to work on. I was very shy for a long time, so it took a while to get over that. Also I wasn’t too confident in my stage show for a while so that took some time to get over as welll!
With music being so accessible for listeners via the internet, do you find that it’s easier or harder for you to get people to pay attention and buy your music?
I think it’s easier if you know where to put it! It’s all a game, and it’s only hard for everyone because the game has changed, and there are new rules to play by.
This time next year, where do you see yourself at?
I have a lot of goals, and I think I’ll keep those to myself. Dont want to jinx anything!
If hip-hop were a person, what would you say to him/her?
I would scream every memorable rap chorus at her. Just to see her reactions. LOL.
Make sure to stay tuned to the White House Band’s music becuase his star will defnitely rise far in this upcoming year. Check out his latest tracks :
