Just a few more weeks left in the regular season. Teams vying for a seed in the tournament have just a few more opportunities to make a case for their bid. Conference tournaments will also provide chances. UNLV, Indiana and San Diego State each suffered costly upsets this week.

What a rivalry week it was!
#2 Syracuse escaped an upset against it’s longtime foe Georgetown. Previously unbeaten, Murray State suffered its first loss this week as they were defeated by the Teneseesee State Tigers. The Duke Blue Devils climbed up 5 spots after defeating UNC and UMD.
AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll – Week 14
A tough loss to Miami sent the Duke Blue Devils three spots down having them round out the top ten for this week’s rankings. Big East Louisville re-enters the top 25 after not being apart of the rankings since week 11. Murray State (23-0) remains the only undefeated team in the rankings.

AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll – Week 13
Unranked Oklahoma State defeated previously #2 Missouri moving the Tigers to the #4 spot for the week 13 rankings. The defending champion Connecticut Huskies exited the top 25 rankings this week after spending the previous 12 weeks on the charts.

AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll – Week 12
The Kentucky Wildcats return to the #1 ranking this week, a spot they had not been in since being upset by Indiana in week 6. The Wildcats are on a 12 game win streak as they continue their SEC matchups for the remainder of the season. Previously unbeaten Syracuse’s loss to Notre Dame slid the Cuse two spots to #3 in this week’s rankings. Top ten teams: Baylor and Duke were also upset during the week.

The sports realm has lost a legend. The man known to Penn State football as JoePa passed away just three months after being dismissed from the program, amidst sexual misconduct allegations involving his former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.
AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll – Week 11
Losses by North Carolina, Ohio State, Michigan State and Indiana helped Duke earn a #4 ranking this week. Syracuse continues its impressive 19-0 streak and St. Mary’s enters the top 25 with a victory over Gonzaga.
AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll – Week 10
There are only three unbeaten teams left in the NCAA AP top 25 rankings: Syracuse, Baylor and Murray State. Syracuse has been the # 1 team in the country for the past few weeks and isn’t scheduled to face another ranked team until early February.

Louisville’s loss to Georgetown left the Cardinals out of the top 10 and allowed the Hoyas to enter it. The Best of the Big East still remains Syracuse as they held on to their #1 rank for the third consecutive week. Conference play should continue to shake up the rankings in weeks ahead.

The only team to leave the top 10 was Marquette this week after suffering its first loss of the season to LSU 67-59. Besides Marquette’s new spot at #13 on the rankings, #1 Syracuse and the rest of the previous top 10 remain intact.

A vicious brawl involving Xavier and Cincinnati left four suspended for the Musketeers and shorthanded for their match-up against Oral Roberts. The absence of starting point guard Tu Holloway, shooting guard Mark Lyons and freshman forward Dez Wells, who account for 40 percent of Xavier’s points certainly played a factor in the Musketeers 64-42 loss. Xavier dropped out of the top 10 to a # 14 ranking.

AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll – Week 6
Previously unranked Indiana’s upset win over #1 Kentucky landed the Hoosiers in the Top 25 for the first time this season. A buzzer beating three pointer shot by Christian Watford not only emptied the stands in Bloomington but dropped the Wildcats to #3 and propelled the Hoosiers to the #18 spot. Syracuse cruised to the top ranked spot by defeating George Washington and Marshall.
CLE Final Heisman Ballot
The Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious award in all of college sports will be presented this Saturday in New York City. The award will go to the college football player deemed to have had the most outstanding performance on the gridiron during the 2011 season.

Despite the controversy, Syracuse continues to climb up the rankings. Big East Conference play for the Orangemen starts new years day. Ohio State’s routing of Duke proved they belong among the best in the country, while Kentucky just managed to slip passed the Tar Heels to remain number one in the rankings.

In an all SEC matchup, Alabama will get a chance to avenge their 9-6 loss to the SEC champions, LSU in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game Jan. 9 in New Orleans. Alabama edged out one-loss teams Oklahoma State, Stanford and Boise State.

On November 29, 2011 Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim held a press conference following the game against EMU. The press were of course more interested in the allegations of sexual abuse against Boeheim’s former assistant coach Bernie Fine than they were about the game.

The top ranked Tar Heels loss to UNLV wasn’t enough to boot them from the top ten, but it was enough to move Kentucky to the number one ranking and advance undefeateds, Ohio State, Duke and Syracuse as well. Duke grasped its fifth Maui Invitational championship but will be tested soon against second ranked Ohio State.

A decisive victory over Arkansas places LSU one game closer to the Allstate BCS National Championship Game on Jan. 9th in New Orleans.While Alabama is done with its season, many believe a win over Oklahoma this weekend could help Oklahoma State’s shot at a National Championship appearance.

The top six teams remained the same in the new AP rankings, but with the Maui Invitational underway expect some changes to be made to the next rankings that are unveiled. The team that took home the Maui Invitational championship last year also walked away with the National Championship (UConn).
