As You Will Surely Be Missed: A Tribute to Whitney Houston

They say the good die young.

Such could not be more true as we mourn the loss of one of the greatest voices of all time, Whitney Houston. As Saturday evening wrapped up, the internet went into a whirlwind reporting the death of Houston. Just about everyone repeated, “not Whitney, it can’t be.”

Turning to major news outlets, because Twitter deaths are not uncommon, the news did prove true, Whitney Houston had died. While the details of the death are still not confirmed, her impact has proven more than great throughout the years.

Houston was born in 1963 in Newark, NJ to gospel singer Sissy Houston. She began her singing career in her neighborhood church, and was featured in many world renowned magazines as a model in her teens.

In 1985  Houston released her self-titled debut album which boasted her famous hits “Savin All My love,” “How Will I Know,” and most notably “Greatest Love of All.” Houston will be remembered for her chart-topping songs, tumultuous relationship with R&B star Bobby Brown, and her amazing vocal range. Whitney’s amazing film presence in films like The Preacher’s WifeWaiting

to Exhale, and the Bodyguard, [which granted Houston her most famous ballad "I Will Always Love You," a Dolly Parton remake] only add to the memorable legacy she leaves behind. Regardless of personal struggles, the world will mourn the loss of one of its greatest voices, Whitney Houston.
