Here’s Five ways you can stay in contact with your college crush during the summer.
Be Realistic: While it’s been said that distance makes the heart grow fonder, distance also makes the heart grow weirder. When you’re not seeing someone regularly, but continue thinking about him or her, your mental picture of the person can become quite unrealistic. Fantasizing is fun, but make sure you’re not basing expectations for a potential relationship on a built-up daydream.
Continue the Dialogue: If you emailed, texted or IMed over the school year, there’s no reason you can’t check in with your crush over the summer. However, we don’t recommend sitting on Google chat all day waiting for his or her name to appear, then hitting the person up the second they sign on.
Stalk Smart: Checking up on your crush is a natural inclination and, honestly, sites like Facebook seem to have been created just to indulge our want to harmlessly stalk. But it’s only harmless if you do it right. For example, don’t “like” a photo your crush posted several months ago — it will be pretty clear that you just spent three hours looking through all of their pictures. That’s creepy.
Don’t Pretend: Girls tend to use their Facebook photos and status updates to show their coolest, most come-hither-est selves. But we don’t suggest trying to make your crush jealous by posting photos of you and other guys or by crafting updates to show what a crazy party girl you are. Instead of enticing your crush, you’ll come off as not really interested in him, or even off the market.
Get Together: Don’t spend your summer hoping you’ll have another class together in the fall — just cut to the chase. If you’re not sure you’re ready for one-on-one time, and the two of you are both part of a tight crew of college friends, consider teaming up with another person in the group to plan a mid-summer rendezvous for the whole clan. It will be fun to see your pals (especially if living with mom and dad again has become a little too much to handle), and you’ll have the chance to see if you still have feelings for the person.
